“Solides Hotel in einer wenig attraktiven Stadt”

The Swiss‑Belhotel is the best hotel in Tarakan, though you shouldn’t expect a European standard; western tourists rarely get lost in Tarakan. The hotel’s location is very central, and the staff were very helpful and friendly, trying everything they could. They arranged a private boat charter for us that worked well. The street is noisy and dirty, as everywhere in Tarakan, and the pool was also not clean. In the rooms you couldn’t see the corners clearly, and there was an unpleasant smell. The hotel restaurant had a very small menu, and for children there was no juice, Sprite, or Fanta. The hotel’s prices are a bit too high for the standard offered.

The hotel is in a good location, but it is very old and needs renovation; everything feels aged, the toilet is brown, the sheets were stained, and the AC is so old that you can’t adjust the temperature.

The spot was great and the food hit the mark, with staff that really went above and beyond. We stayed in a junior suite, but the AC was set up poorly—its blast went straight across the living area and left the bedroom side uncooled, and the room let in a lot of outside noise.

“Confortable for good rest.”

The place was spotless, quiet, and perfect for unwinding after a long journey, and this time the AC worked fine. The staff were excellent, but the restaurant’s carte was incomplete; many listed dishes were unavailable, especially the “typical Indonesian” options that had seemed appealing compared to Western fare like pizza and burgers.
