“We didn’t fullfill our expectations”
The staff and the food were good, but the room and the building required a lot of maintenance. The walls and the ceiling had been in disrepair for a long time.

The setting was lovely, the room came with a private onsen, and the staff were always ready to help.

The semi‑open bath was very good. On our anniversary they prepared flowers and cake for an extra fee, which made the day very nice. The food was very luxurious, and we were able to eat slowly in our room. The mosquitoes were plentiful because it was raining and the area is mountainous, but that’s understandable.

The meals were good, but the price did not include a single beer or glass of wine, and most of the staff were friendly. The hot tub temperature was perfect. Communication with the hotel was very bad. They said they could pick us up with a shuttle. I sent them my timeline to pick us up from the bus stop, the closest bus stop to the hotel. Then they were not there; they assumed we would be at the train station. After multiple text messages that made it clear they could not understand where we were, they finally figured out we were waiting close by. They then said just walk up to the hotel, only 5 minutes walk. This was not true. It was a 15 minute hike on a very busy narrow road and then a very steep road in heavy rain with our luggage, and we were utterly exhausted by the time we got to this very shabby older hotel.

The corner suite overlooking the mountains was amazing, and the private onsen with rain sounds was blissful. Mianami attended to us in the room, serving dinner with professionalism and attentiveness. It was a very relaxing and indulgent experience, one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I didn’t like the pillows – they were too hard for my taste, though my husband loved them. We both enjoyed the futons.
