The common areas looked clean and welcoming, but my room was awful: it was dirty, the window curtain was sagging and tied down with a cable, the trash can was so filthy I gagged just touching it to throw out the garbage, a floor fan that had never been cleaned for years gave off a terrible odor that filled the entire room.

Not much. The electrical looked hazardous. The floor, bathroom and drawers were dirty. There were bugs. The towels needed to be rented. There was no A/C and one fan was caked with dirt and the other one was very loud.

I stayed in a private room. Very pleasant. It was enjoyable having breakfast on the hostel’s balcony. Location is perfect.

The location was fine, yet the stairs were steep. I booked a private room, but even the window was missing, a dusty fan that hadn't been cleaned in years made it unbearably hot, and the bathroom wasn't clean.
