Dedbaicha cafe & Hostel Phuket old town

The air‑conditioned room was clean and centrally located, yet the duvet had no cover. When I tried to sort this out, I discovered that the café staff hand out keys under the rooms but otherwise have nothing to do with accommodation. A phone number is posted on the wall, but it isn’t answered. Communication through the booking chat worked, and after a while someone explained that it’s common in Thailand not to use duvet covers. I left early.

The staff were genuinely sweet, though their English was lacking. The air conditioning worked well. We didn’t have duvet covers for our blankets, but we brought sleeping bags, so it was fine.

The location was convenient, within walking distance of the old town, but the common areas were dirty and the laundry was left in plastic bags right outside my door for hours. The windows were so grimy that nothing could be seen through them. The blanket had no cover, so I’m unsure whether it was washed after each guest; I used my own sheet instead. The biggest issue was at arrival: Google Maps couldn’t locate the place, so the taxi driver dropped me about 1.5 km away and it took me half an hour asking locals for directions to find the hotel.

The property sits in a good spot, but otherwise there’s little to recommend. The photos are misleading: we stayed for three days and the lobby remained filthy, littered with garbage on the floor and tables, plates of food left unattended, and no one cleaned up. The hostel itself is not very clean; the bathroom had no hot water, the sheets looked unwashed, and the staff spoke no English.

The price was reasonable, but the view was bleak (see photos) and the furnishings were minimal—no toilet paper, etc.
