“Terrible. DO NOT STAY HERE.”
We had stayed at the Colliefields many times before, so we expected a certain standard, but the owners had changed and the place had become awful. When we arrived at the agreed upon time (5pm), the man at the desk was surprised to see us and clearly had no idea we had booked and paid for 3 rooms for 2 nights. The rooms were not prepared, and we waited an hour for them to be made up. When we finally received the keys, one of the rooms lacked pillows and towels, which we had to request. The shared bathroom was not cleaned; there was faeces in the toilet and hair on the floor and in the shower. One of the toilets had lights that did not work, and the hot water in the only shower took 30 minutes to heat up properly. In another room, the split system heater had a power cord dangling from it and was plugged into the power point by an extension cord; the cord fell out during the night and the heating turned off, so it was 0 degrees that night. When we asked for an access code to get back into the accommodation after hours, we were told there wasn’t one and that the doors would be unlocked, but that was not the case. Another guest gave us the access code to get back in after hours. The hotel—if you can call it that—was in general poor condition: the carpets were dirty, the paint was peeling off the walls, the bedding was flimsy and thin, the whole place smelled like cooking oil from the restaurant/cafe below, and there were no bins anywhere (in the rooms or the bathroom). The management should shut the Colliefields down and fix it up before allowing guests to book again; it would not pass a health and safety inspection. DO NOT BOOK HERE.
