Locanda Dell'Angelo, in Ameglia, sits on the Tuscany-Liguria border, surrounded by green fields and ancient Roman ruins of Luni. The stylish hotel, designed by Vico Magistretti, mirrors the Apuan Alps' white and Ligurian sea's blue. Its garden features olive trees and Mediterranean oaks, a marble pool with hydromassage, and contemporary art interiors, 1 hour from Pisa, Lucca, and Florence.

The room was good and the balcony was large, and the staff were fantastic; however, the outdoor furniture on the balcony was poor and the breakfast could have been better.

Because we had to leave very early, we asked for a 5:00 am breakfast and the staff were very friendly and served us an excellent meal.

Breakfast was okay and the pool was fine, but cleanliness—especially in the bathroom—was lacking; the shower heads were not clean.

We stayed in view of the Mind Festival, close to the sea and the town of Sarzana, with a good breakfast and a relaxing pool area surrounded by greenery and a wonderful basil scent.
