The Stadthotel am Römerturm, a modern 4-star hotel, is located in Cologne's heart, 10 minutes from Cologne Main Station and Cathedral. Refurbished in 2013, it offers air-conditioned, non-smoking rooms with WiFi, TV, and private bathroom. A restaurant serves international cuisine, and nearby Appelhofplatz underground station provides easy access to city centre, Exhibition Grounds, and parking. Daily breakfast buffet available.

The bathroom was well equipped with a tub and a separate shower, and the shower was level—no step edges—great for older travelers. A grab rail would be advisable (not just for seniors). The KVB stop “Appellhofplatz” was easily reachable on foot. The downside was that my room had two desks, but neither had a suitable chair; since I’m always writing while traveling, it would have been very handy to have a chair.

The yearly fan club gathering went as usual, solid as ever. The staff were super friendly, and the breakfast selection was good and plentiful. Parking is available in the courtyard. On the downside, the rooms feel a bit dated and could use a fresh coat of paint; the bathroom seams would also appreciate some attention. That’s to be expected for the price.
