“A most welcome port of call, in what could have been a storm.”
I messed up the booking and showed up on a Monday night expecting a normal hotel, but we were met by a very concerned French lady, the owner, who was about to leave for her weekend. The hotel was closed and there was nothing else nearby, so we were offered an empty room with no staff, no dinner, and no breakfast. We were surprisingly happy to accept. Camares is one of the most remote villages in the Grandes Causses, and we had no other choice. It’s a charming medieval village with a lofty pack‑horse “Old Bridge” arching over the Dourdou de Camares, linking the two halves of town. Thank you, Le Vieux Pont, for your old‑fashioned hospitality to two elderly and disorganised travellers. If we’re allowed back, we’d love to try your dining, the menu looked very interesting!
“agréable et convivial”
Everything was great, with plenty of food and a good variety, and overall everything was fine.
“Faites le détour par Camares et résidez dans cet hôtel familal de caractère”
The rooms are tidy and adequate, yet the restaurant is a rare gem of natural simplicity and enchanting aromas.
“calme et accueil très sympathique.”
The reception was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the meals—both at the restaurant and the breakfast—were excellent; I highly recommend it.
We were welcomed warmly and even had a garage spot for our motorcycle; the restaurant food was delicious and the view from our room’s window was fantastic, but the bathroom was very small.
