Castle Inn is centrally located between Van Ness Avenue and Russian Hill in San Francisco. The hotel is 1.6 km from Chinatown, North Beach, and Fisherman’s Wharf. The iconic Palace of Fine Arts is 3 km away, with the Powell/Hyde cable car line just a 3-minute walk.

The location was great. The huge desk and shelf in the room let us store our stuff—our last stop on a road trip with luggage that was about to burst—and the beds were super comfortable! The parking was free, which is great, but maneuvering into the tight space is a challenge.

The location is in a good part of San Francisco. The entire motel is quite rundown, the rooms were cheaply made, and there were no rear windows, so the bathroom moisture made the whole room smell damp. Basically, a motel squeezed between two houses at the expense of quality. Parking is a disaster because everything is too cramped.

I really enjoy the breakfast each morning and the beautiful view from the window. The room is quiet and cozy, and the bathroom water pressure is steady. The only downside was that the toilet was a bit stuck and there was no tool to clean it.

They cancelled our reservation because of a "card issue." We drove from Las Vegas and arrived at 23:35, but the receptionist wouldn’t help us. He said our booking was cancelled due to a card problem, and when we offered to pay on site he claimed the hotel was full, even though booking showed rooms available. After 23:35, exhausted from a 14‑hour drive, we were left alone in San Francisco and had to find a place to sleep urgently. Reporting everything to Booking, they just wash their hands and basically blame us. I won’t book with Booking again.
