The hotel is close to food and drinks, but they told us to hand in our keys when leaving at night and when we came back they had given our key to someone else, though fortunately they hadn’t entered our room.

The hotel sits on Main Street in the middle of town, with bars and shops nearby, and the car park is at the back of the building; we had a lovely breakfast, the bar food was good, and the staff were friendly. If you’re staying for the Rory Gallagher festival, it’s perfect, and it’s also a good base for sightseeing. The bedrooms and bathrooms feel like a trip back in time, but they’re kept clean and tidy. I only stayed one night, and I had trouble figuring out how to turn on the bathroom light and turn off the extractor fan, which took a while because there were three switches and I’m a light sleeper.

Pleasant stay right in the heart of Ballyshannon, but breakfast service was terribly slow. As a solo traveler I felt overlooked; the staff were very busy, maybe they needed an extra person. There was no Wi‑Fi coverage in the room.
