The view of Mount Abang and the lake was amazing, and I loved soaking in the hot spring pool right outside the room that is emptied and refilled every morning with fresh clean springwater. The staff were helpful and quick to attend to my requests. The bed was comfortable, the shower hot, and everything else was great for a tranquil stay. The location is also close to the start of the trekking route up Mt Batur, with the option of taking a jeep to the midpoint and then trekking to the top. Breakfast was good, and the staff accommodated my later timing. On Day 1 I ordered vegetarian fried noodles, which were too salty for my taste, but after giving feedback the staff remembered my diet and the next day’s fried rice was cooked nicely with less salt. For transport to the airport it’s best to arrange in advance either privately or with the villa’s owner; I had expected Grab to work, but after booking they either cancelled or tried to get me to contact them via WhatsApp, during which the asking price doubled because they’d have to make an “empty” return trip. I’m grateful to the villa owner for helping me get a driver in the end, whose charges were more reasonable and not as exorbitant as the Grab drivers. The route can be quite rocky with turns and twists, and even with skilled drivers I experienced some motion sickness.

The location is amazing—picture perfect in terms of the view—and the volcanic hot spring water in the plunge pool was most welcome during the cold evenings. The menu at the location was limited, but the staff were obliging and prepared on call. Friendly staff provided helpful information. The place was very clean and family friendly. The jeep driver was arranged by the property to take us to the Mt Batur viewpoint at sunrise. The staff’s attention was limited when the property was full.
