We chose to stay in Aalst, home to Georges and Madaleine, because we wanted to hop around Belgium on day trips. Brussels was more than twice the price for July, so using Aalst as our base made sense—especially since we only spent a day in the capital. From there we easily reached Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges, all about a 40‑minute train ride. The host was friendly and attentive, and the apartment was brand new, spotless, stylish, and right next to the train station.
