We were thrilled by the trail that runs behind the cottages, and while breakfast was better than dinner, the cocktails were truly outstanding!

It was a comfortable place to stay while visiting Kilauea volcano; everything was convenient and the staff were very nice. This was my second time here and I’ll definitely come back again.

The check‑in lady was great, the place was pleasant and quiet, and the water fountain was available. The restaurant had excellent food, but it was expensive. The room was in a separate house with other rooms and a social area; if you’re unlucky like we were with noisy guests, everything is audible. A special code is required to enter the house, another code to enter the room, and it was quite annoying having to punch in codes all the time. Everything is far away – you have to drive (in the USA that’s normal).

The lodge is stunning, excellently placed, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable; we first visited nine years ago and remain just as delighted. Unfortunately the restaurant has slipped in quality—the fish was overcooked, a salad came with only three crumbs of cheese, and the breakfast featured burnt bacon and potatoes.
