“Pleasant stopping off point!”
The location was convenient because we were attending a wedding at Carlton Towers, but the awful lack of taxis in the area—nothing to do with the hotel—was frustrating.

I liked the bar area, but when I booked breakfast for 7.30, the dining room was locked and I couldn't get in; I had to leave at 7.40 without having breakfast even though I had paid for it.

The landlord was very helpful, the location was perfect for walkers and cyclists on the Trans Pennine Trail, the rooms were spacious and clean, evening meals were good, and breakfast was a bit late because the chef was not present, but the landlord stepped in and did a great job; our bikes were well looked after. Nothing else was an issue, just the slightly late breakfast, but everything worked out in the end.

The bedroom was large and comfortable, but breakfast was terrible: no tables set, no cereals or any choice for self‑serve, I asked for tea and was given a small cold stewed pot with no replacement, the coffee was cheap powdered and tasted bad, breakfast was dumped without even a serviette, promised granola never appeared, a staff member at breakfast said he was leaving and seemed indifferent to guests, baked beans were cold, bacon was undercooked, and the door downstairs to the main stairs banged and shook our room every time it was used.

The staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome, the accommodation was spotless, and at the end of our stay we had a lovely breakfast; I highly recommend it and will stay again.
