Lake Side Nikko Hotel

“We really enjoyed our stay at Lakeside Nikko. The staff was extremely helpful, the food was exceptional, the rooms were”

Lakeside Nikko felt very quiet, and the Japanese breakfast was excellent. We appreciated how close the bus stop was, and the staff were extremely helpful. We really enjoyed our stay, though the furniture could use an update.

“Any port in a storm”

We arrived right in the middle of a typhoon, so the weather was awful and we were grateful for a roof over our heads. It was hard to rate anything as good or bad because we basically huddled to get through the storm and didn't do much else. It would be fairer to read another person's review—when I imagine it could be a lovely, beautiful location, but for us it felt a bit like The Overlook from The Shining: slightly abandoned and faded grandeur, yet thankfully no supernatural goings-on. It seemed a bit unnecessary that the one staff member cleaned the onsen while my wife was using it; there were hardly any other guests in the whole place, so she might have waited two minutes. Maybe she was trying to be helpful? There is a food vending machine, but it doesn't accept credit cards and only takes old Japanese banknotes, so given the weather we ended up going to bed hungry (to be fair, the hotel details say food must be pre‑ordered and the weather was truly terrible).

“朝食がものすごいボリューム。”

The turbid‑water onsen was great, and the breakfast included a generous serving of yudofu. The rooms and corridors were spacious. At night, the women's bath had no view of the outside and felt cramped; I wish they could offer a larger bath at night. The breakfast had half a pot of yudofu, but the miso soup also had tofu as its only ingredient.

The staff were very helpful, the location is secluded with a lovely view of the lake and mountains, and the food was delicious. The futons were a bit harder than usual, but that depends on how soft you like your bed, I guess.

“Lekker eten, mooie omgeving, goede prijs”

The dinner and breakfast were truly delicious, and the staff were very friendly. There was no elevator and the facilities were somewhat outdated, but the price is still good in relation to that.
