“Loud and grubby.”
The St John location is convenient for restaurants, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms and balconies are spacious. The “white” towels are actually grey, as is the bed cover—something as simple as bleach would help. The area can be noisy; a loudspeaker festival ran until about 7 pm, and at 9 pm evening roadworks started. The in‑room kettle is appreciated, but the cord does not reach the outlet, so you have to make tea on the floor or in the bathroom. The breakfast staff are lovely, but everything was 30 minutes late and the eggs—both boiled and scrambled—tasted questionable. A new policy gives guests music‑festival‑style wristbands to ensure only guests enter, but these bands mark guests as tourists and reveal where they are staying, which seems a bit dangerous. They are also uncomfortable to wear and shower in. Heritage, please stop wasting money on branding your guests and buy some bleach instead.
