My sister and I stayed at The Shala, and it was such a lovely experience; the room I had was amazing, one of their newest deluxe villas with a deck facing the jungle and rice fields behind it. Walking from the main road to the accommodation takes a few minutes and was one of my favourite parts of the stay. I felt close to the action of Ubud centre, yet in the quietness and beauty of the rice fields. The staff were lovely and eager to help, and our stay was great—we hope to return.

The location is superb, staff very friendly and knowledgeable, and I loved my bungalow, the Jungle, which is secluded and set apart from everything else on the property. After a long work day, it can be a little discouraging walking back to my bungalow, but in the end, it was never a problem.

We stayed in a beautiful cabin in the woods, which was surprisingly new. However, the breakfast on the first day was a major letdown. For the price, we expected a lot more, but all we got was a very limited selection and no coffee. We had to make do with just tea. After complaining, they added some extra items on the second day, but it still wasn't enough. For this price, the breakfast should be much more comprehensive. You'd expect that from a hotel of this caliber, not a budget one.
