The location was terrible, the price‑performance ratio was huge, the service was very bad, and the breakfast was completely disastrous.

The old‑world style offered breathtaking views, excellent staff responsiveness, and breakfasts that were tailored to our needs with no issues. The old statues and rooms with views were stunning. Everything was as we wished, and we have stayed at many resorts in Thailand; some say it’s a bit old, but that’s the charm. It’s a cliff‑top resort overlooking the bay of Samui and Koh Phangan. If you want bling, go elsewhere; here you won’t get that. If you want to travel to the boom‑boom‑boom bar three kilometres away, they hire scooters.

We felt lost in the old royal world charm with views that made us want to die, a stunning location, and a car or scooters available so the distance from the boom‑boom‑boom bars and clubs isn’t an issue unless you want to walk the 300 m to Khanom’s famous seafood restaurants. Sea‑view café decks are close by. The sense of old royalty pervades the place; it’s a bit dated, but compared to modern resorts it offers an unmatched feeling. The rooms are stacked, with garden views of neighbours’ huts and a flash‑hut experience. It’s a little run down, but that’s what you’re after if you want to feel like your favourite café scene in Europe or immerse yourself in the elite bygone era that surrounds the place, which is super quiet and has very attentive staff. If you want to smile, relax, and embrace its outstanding energy, the breakfast 12 m above the lapping waves and the mostly empty swimming pool in low season are great. Beds were perfect, water pressure strong, and we had real hot water. We stayed in room 417 with stunning views and watched monitor lizards wandering around happily as an extra bonus. They have the normal activities hut and pools. What we didn’t like was that we had the whole place to ourselves except for expat locals on lunch dates, a swim, and a chat. We didn’t like the huge breakfasts we couldn’t finish, the cheerful staff, the lapping waves sounds, the 28‑degree heat, the wind emulation upwards for the sea 300 m cliff‑top water frontage, and the smiling receptionist who couldn’t do enough for us. English is not their first language, but there are enough staff around that if you aren’t in a hurry to get back to your normal life, things work out fine.

The view was great, and because there weren’t many tourists it was quiet; I had the pool to myself for the whole week. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the resort’s old‑world Royal Bangkok style was charming. The only downside was the lack of real coffee.
