After 16 days at Aviedale Suite, we would have stayed again. The accommodation is small as described in the ad, but more comfortable than it seems in the photos. The room is spacious and you really sleep well there. Multiple attentions make the stay practical in every sense. No view from the lodging but stunning panoramas of the garden and the parking promising magical sunrises. At our arrival, the oyster farmers welcomed us and sang throughout our stay. From the location, a nice walk leads to a beach and to an old cemetery (to the left) with a ruined chapel covered in lichen. The spot is ideal for exploring Mainland and the surrounding islands. A good tip, especially, go to the Finstown grocery less than 10 minutes from the lodging to find excellent local products like fresh bread, cakes with beremeal, beers brewed nearby, butter and farm cheeses, fudges. The Orkneys are magical and we leave amazed, this place is welcome for a wonderful stay.

The bed was comfy, but a few rooms at the back of the house had no views. The TV was tiny and hard to see, and the seating in the middle room—rickety wooden chairs or a cheap sofa bed—felt like it could snap. Cooking facilities were very limited. I wasn’t given my access code until just before arrival, even though I was already on Shetland, probably to prevent an early check‑in. There were many broken items: a dryer, a radiator with notes saying it was broken by guests, and warning signs that you’d have to pay a plumber if the toilet blocked. It seemed the owners were outsiders who didn’t trust anyone, so the place felt unwelcoming.
