Nestled near the famed Waitomo Caves, the homestead cabins offer family rooms with private entrances and garden views, each featuring a shower, carpeted floors, and en-suite bathroom. Guests enjoy a sun terrace, garden, restaurant, bar, lounge, shared kitchen, electric vehicle charging, coffee shop, and tour desk. The location, 51 km from Hamilton Airport, provides hiking opportunities and easy cave access.

My cabin offered a lovely view over the cow pasture, with sunset and a beautiful sky at night; it warmed up in the sun during the day and stayed warm in the evening, which was great for this time of year. However, no towels were provided, making it the only private room in NZ where you had to bring your own. I stayed in one of the cabins furthest from the highway, yet I could still hear it a bit. It’s not within walking distance to the Waitomo caves or other attractions, so you definitely need a car. Overall, it’s a bit expensive for what you get.

The place was quiet, but nobody was there when we wanted to check in; the staff were not available upon our arrival and it wasn’t even late.
