Arriving in Matera by car, the hotel’s large free private parking was very handy, and the Sassi are a 15‑minute walk away. Our room came with a coffee machine and a fully stocked minibar, all complimentary. Breakfast was excellent, offering a good variety compared to typical Italian hotel breakfasts. The train line runs very close to the hotel; we didn’t hear trains at night, but they start early in the morning, so light sleepers might want earplugs.

The hotel was very noisy, and the staff seemed inadequate when problems arose. In the middle of the night, a motor sound kept me from sleeping. The room phone didn’t work, and there was no one at reception. The receptionist was only at the bar. It took over an hour to find a solution.

The place is beautiful and roomy, a pleasant walk to the old town, and the staff are great. It’s quiet and easy to reach by car.

The train noise was a bit annoying; a sound barrier along the line would have kept the hotel away from the train’s clatter.
