The volunteers running the hostel were friendly and helpful, the location was very convenient, and it’s a cheap option compared to other accommodations. However, the hostel is really run down. The whole building has a musty smell, the bathrooms and kitchen are worn and dirty, and the rooms were not cleaned—only the sheets were changed. The sanitary facilities clearly haven’t been thoroughly cleaned in a long time. In our room we couldn’t close the window, which is not practical for a winter stay in Lapland with sub‑freezing temperatures. The door jammed and was hard to close, and when it did close it wouldn’t open again. Finally, it’s extremely noisy.

The price is great. The location and the place aren’t spectacular, but everything else is fine.

Everything was super, just a weird setup with the combined toilet, shower, and sauna—sometimes you’d want to stay in the sauna without disturbing anyone else, but overall it was very good. I’ve already shared that comment above.

The location was great, but I’d recommend having a car. The staff were incredibly kind, and this was the cheapest place I found in Rovaniemi. The room was comfortable with no unpleasant surprises. The fridge in the shared lounge needs cleaning, and it would be good to have a cleaning spray for showers and toilets in case some guests don’t keep up hygiene; we had one incident on the first day, but the rest of the time it was pretty clean.
