“Definitely not the place to stay in Torquay in October….Avoid”
I had a terrible experience in October when the hotel was being used for pensioner bus tours. The sea view from my executive room was blocked by three parked buses that occupied most of the parking spaces. The hotel’s claim that “parking is limited and on a first‑come basis” was false because the management closed off about 10 spaces about ten hours before the buses arrived, giving them priority every day. Parking was almost impossible after 6 pm when the buses were there. I had to ask for the floor to be vacuum‑cleaned, request towels, and request a sheet change, but only a duvet cover was replaced and no bottom sheet was provided. The coffee cups and glasses in the room were just rinsed in the bathroom, which is unacceptable; they should be taken to the kitchen and washed in a dishwasher at 60 °C at least. The shower alternated between scalding hot and freezing cold, and there were no temperature‑controlled mixers—those would cost less than £50 and would save hot water. My wife had to take two baths a day instead of showers for the eight days we stayed, and the extra hot water cost would have paid for a mixer. The bar staff were indolent, slow, and untrained; a group of pensioner bus tour guests entered with their zimmers and spent 5 to 10 minutes moving tables into a configuration for their group, while the three young bar staff men in their early twenties hid around the corner and never offered help.
