My husband and I spent one night at Okunikko Park Lodge Miyama while visiting Nikko, and the lodge sits right at the Yumoto Onsen bus stop. We were genuinely charmed by the warm attitude of the staff and their thoughtful attempts to communicate with us. The room was very spacious, and we enjoyed a delicious Japanese‑style dinner and breakfast. Although the lodge hasn’t been recently modernized and we felt a bit of wind through the windows on a cold night, that actually added to its unique charm. It felt like staying in a traditional, no‑fuss mountain lodge that has everything you need to rest well after a long day. Plus, the price was very reasonable! We would love to return one day—thanks for having us!

The breakfast and dinner were very generous! On 2025/11/15, the bathroom’s high step was a bit dangerous! The room had no heater, only an electric heater that didn’t keep the room warm, and the blanket wasn’t warm enough, so my wife caught a cold. At midnight it was minus 5 degrees, so I advise anyone who is cold‑sensitive to think twice!

There was no shampoo or soap in the bathroom, so if you forget to bring them—good luck. The onsen is a bathtub in a basement, looks awful, and I couldn’t sit there. The building is super old, and as you sleep on the futon you can feel and hear everything. Guests were pacing at 3 am and it was impossible to sleep. (I’ve slept in a few ryokans already, never had this issue.) Also there’s a weird workaround where the sink tap is actually the shower hose; the whole system looks very old and unattractive. Overall, after a hike in nature it was an unpleasant stay where all I wanted was a shower and a bed.

A straightforward Japanese hotel that works well for anyone wanting a Japanese experience at a reasonable price.
