Nico, the manager, is a fascinating researcher and the lodge itself is a former scholar’s residence, with decent common areas and Wi‑Fi. Getting there was a hassle though; the last few kilometres are on narrow tracks, the cabins are pretty spartan and the fan only works if you prop it up on a chair and some books, plus the battery dies before midnight. There wasn’t much to do around the site, so we packed up and left the next day.

The staff were incredibly friendly, the setting was gorgeous and it felt like a true bush adventure.

This place used to be a research station and now welcomes tourists; it’s clean and the meals are excellent. We got lost after dark, but after sending a late‑night SOS, Nico met us at the coordinates and escorted us to the camp, and he also arranges extra activities like a Chobe River boat ride at a fair price. The only downside was that the signage could be clearer.

A lovely little spot that feels like a sleepy corner of the world, with a lot of attention paid to the small details. Getting there is a pain, though—signs exist but it’s hard to know which road you’re on.
