Dona Nel’s hospitality and cheerfulness, the chef’s tasty meals, the spot facing the ocean at the base of the jungle, the waves crashing on the beach, the rumbling sky, and the cliff from which we could see whales made it a wild, restorative place; just remember we’re quite isolated there.

Doná Nel and her husband are genuinely warm people; they helped us sort out tours and transport without any hassle. The meals they serve on the property are surprisingly tasty, making the whole visit feel homely.

The service from the owners matched what we hoped for, with a welcoming attitude that lasted the whole stay and meals that showcased local Pacific Colombian ingredients. The lodge sits on Playa Cuevita, a spot where you can see rain‑forests, natural beaches, whale watching, turtle nesting and a ton of birdlife, though the Pacific tides sometimes bring in debris that ends up on the shore.

The host, location, and surrounding nature were all highlights, but the beach suffers from a serious trash problem, with glass bottles and other debris making swimming risky. Motorbikes constantly zip across the sand, and the litter issue isn’t something the inn can fix alone. Doná Nel was understanding, helped us cut the trip short, and arranged a refund for the unused nights.
