Breakfast was prepared on demand and inexpensive; the early wake‑up is expected because the inn on the Camino de Santiago hosts many pilgrims who naturally rise early, but the lively atmosphere and surprising encounters make it a friendly place even if you’re not a pilgrim.

The hotel was very beautiful, and it was a shame we couldn’t join the pilgrim dinner, though we still ate well; the spa was a pleasant treat after a long journey.
