“The apartment which we stayed in was very disappointing and not value for money”
The apartment was spacious, the bathroom – not too fancy – met all practical needs and was clean. The kitchen had a good kettle, toaster, coffee maker, oven, and microwave. The location was in a quiet part of the estate. However, the apartment listed a phone and dishwasher that never arrived; reception promised a phone the next morning but it never came during our five‑day stay. The mattresses were the most uncomfortable we’d slept on and should have been replaced long ago. All the relaxing chairs were uncomfortable and bad for the back, and the two‑seater settee should also have been replaced a long time ago. The curtains were scruffy and looked grubby. Cutlery and crockery were very limited – just two essential items – and there was no bowl, so if you wanted scrambled eggs for breakfast you had to improvise. This was definitely not what we expected from a luxury apartment. Shortly after arriving, I had to fold up and remove a large rug the thickness of a bed blanket in the lounge area; it was a slip‑and‑trip safety hazard because there was no friction between it and the wooden floor and it kept rucking up and getting caught in our feet. An annoyance was the bedroom door, which did not appear to be a fire door but had an automatic closure system fitted. So every time you needed to go into the bedroom for something, a considerable effort was required to open the door, then pull it open again to exit and ensure it didn’t slam into you as you left. There were no instructions for anything – microwave, recycling, towel rail, which appeared to have a control unit at its base but seemed not to work anyway. We left three days early, having had enough experience of this – at best – basic accommodation.
