The hotel looked very attractive, yet a strong cigarette odor in the hallways spoiled the experience, and the doors slammed loudly while the heavy smoke hit you as soon as you opened the bedroom door.

I have no words to express how kind and thoughtful the staff at this hotel were; I was traveling alone with my 13‑year‑old son when he developed a fever, and they went above and beyond to help me in every possible way, from allowing late check‑out, to helping me find the medicines we needed, to arranging a car to our next destination; I would especially like to thank a gentleman (perhaps the manager?) and the young Nepalese woman staff member who spoke perfect English; their kindness made such a difference, especially when traveling in a country where you don't speak the language, it can be very easy to feel lost and overwhelmed; the hotel itself is an excellent five‑star property, with extremely comfortable beds and a very good and varied breakfast; a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff for taking such good care of us. Nothing negative to say.

Fantastic.

Walking into the main lobby, it was clear why the place is called Grand: tall chandeliers draped over a gleaming marble floor, though you barely notice them while the porters haul your luggage. After a quick chat at the front desk, the staff whisked your bags up the elevator. Inside the room, everything matched my expectations: a fridge, a big TV, and a toilet seat that opens automatically when you step in. The only drawback, typical of Chinese hotels with a pool, is that you have to wear a bathing hat—luckily I had one.
