Nestled between Mýrdalsjökull Glacier and Iceland’s southern coast, The Barn offers free Wi‑Fi, on‑site parking, and a communal kitchen. Double rooms share a bathroom, some granting mountain views, while dorm beds feature blackout drapes. Guests enjoy lockers, a hostel bar, and an information desk. It lies 4 km from Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, 7 km from Vík, and 222 km from Keflavík Airport.

The hostel is modern, tidy and clean, especially considering the high traffic. The beds were comfortable, showers were roomy, bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen was superbly equipped. Storage space in the rooms was limited. I was told not to play the reception piano lightly during the day; apparently it’s only for show and there’s no warning about that.

The building is beautiful, new, spacious and clean, and the bar offers quick bites and sweets when needed. The common area with sofas and board games is lovely. The size and number of bathrooms are adequate, at least for the double rooms. During peak hours the shared kitchen was crowded and there weren’t enough stoves. The tables were also insufficient, so some guests had to stand. Nothing catastrophic, but it’s an area that could be improved.

We received a free upgrade to one of the Black Beach Suites, and it was a dream room! The location was quiet and secluded with a direct sea view. The suite was top‑class, very large and spotless.

Everything is very modern and beautifully decorated, but it’s not very practical. The best part is the view from the dining room; the kitchen is gorgeous with plenty of counter space, yet there are no tables to sit at. It isn’t designed to make staying easier. There’s little space for shoes and hanging jackets. The shared rooms have luggage inside, so sleeping with all that luggage noise is a major design flaw. There are many people, and the bathrooms looked dirty.

The place is clean, modern, with great showers and a spacious kitchen that has plenty of dishes, utensils, and cookware. It’s very convenient to get to. I was quoted one price, but when I checked in I was charged another. Reservations were made 11 months ahead.
