Johor Bahru

Malaysia's southern gateway, shaped by border trade and food.

introduction

Overview

Johor Bahru sits directly across the causeway from Singapore. You encounter a fast-moving border city defined by cross-strait commerce and hawker culture. Walking through the downtown core takes you from colonial-era shophouses to modern shopping complexes. Moving around requires rideshare apps or patience at bus terminals.

Causeway shuttle train

The Shuttle Tebrau train takes five minutes to cross from Woodlands to JB Sentral. Booking early skips the multi-hour bus queue.

First glass Hindu temple

The Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Temple is listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as the country's first glass temple.

Weekend hotel rates

Singapore weekend visitors drive up hotel rates on Friday and Saturday nights. Mid-week stays often cost forty percent less.
