“A wonderful funky glamorus old hotel”
We’ve stayed at the Grand Hotel de Londres on previous trips to Istanbul. Built in 1892, it still feels and looks like that era (though somewhat faded). The rooms are old and quirky, but where else can you get a large, overly ornate room with a view of the Golden Horn for just over a hundred dollars? We stayed in room 301 this time. The downstairs bar is small but classic, and bartender Ilhan is a professional and very pleasant. The basic breakfast buffet is included, and the rooftop terrace view is nice. We’ll stay here again when we pass through. Because of the hotel’s original opulent interior, it has become a destination for post‑wedding couples’ photography. Throughout the day, couples with photographers and assistants move through the hotel to various photogenic spots. It’s not really a problem and is entertaining, but sometimes there’s a slight delay on the staircase or at the bar.
