Located in Central Maggie Valley, the Best Western Mountainbrook Inn features an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. A deluxe continental breakfast is served daily, and free Wi-Fi is provided. Rooms are simply decorated with a microwave, refrigerator, cable TV, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Barbeque facilities and a picnic area are available in summer, with the Smoky Mountains Blue Ridge Parkway 10 minutes away and Cataloochee Ski Area 5 miles away.

I didn’t eat breakfast because we left before dawn, but the spot’s proximity to GSMNP was a hit. The room could use some updates: the tub was clearly worn, the floor wasn’t as spotless as I’d like, and it felt damp—probably just the weather.
