Hotel Hafnia

The staff were incredibly sweet and the location right in the center is great. The breakfast, however, didn’t live up to what you’d expect from a four‑star place, especially with the 225 kr per person per day price. The selection and quality were disappointing, and worst of all there was no lactose‑free option available, nor any clear information about lactose content in the products. That was just not good enough.

The location was perfect and the room was good. Breakfast is an extra charge but worth it, excellent. The hotel’s restaurant has a limited menu but the food is very good. The hotel partners with a great gym, which I loved – very comprehensive. The downside is that the gym opens later on Saturdays and Sundays, so we couldn’t use it before we had to leave early for another spot on the islands, which was a pity. The pillows were quite low and not very good, a problem I’ve seen in other Faroese hotels too.

The hotel sits in a great spot and offers fantastic facilities. You can book a private sauna session for an hour, which was perfect on a wet day, and you also get access to a local gym that is truly impressive with every imaginable machine. There’s a free glass of wine in the evening and coffee is available anytime in the snug lobby. What really makes it stand out are the staff – receptionists, housekeepers, and cleaners were all friendly and helpful. A special shout‑out to the cleaner who greeted me every time I passed, and who, after finishing his shift at the reception desk, stayed a few minutes at the entrance to pick up leaves and keep the area looking tidy, even though he was no longer on the clock. The downside was that my room was in the outbuilding and you have to exit the building and descend metal fire stairs to get there. I was wearing a moonboot and found it a bit tricky – if you have any accessibility issues, I’d recommend booking a different room.
