“Don’t stay here unless it’s dirt cheap deal”
The staff and location were brilliant and made the state of the hotel bearable, especially with the cheap deal I got. If I had paid more than I did, I would have been livid. I saw the bad reviews before I stayed but couldn’t find a comparable deal nearby, so I kept my booking. The room was grotty: the carpets were worn, all fixtures were damaged, curtains fell down, there was a hole in the duvet cover, towel rails had screws and fixings pulled from the wall, the toilet didn’t flush properly, the sink was yellow from grime, faucets were caked in white limescale, the bath plug was missing, and there was black mildew on the bath seal. The TV mount was dropping forward because the screws in the mount were missing, bulbs were mismatched or missing in lamps, lamp shades were missing, and walls and windows were covered in scuffs and marks; repair jobs were visible where holes in the wall had been filled in but never painted. The stairs to our room were filthy, as if they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, with debris and dirt accumulating in the corners of each step, a strong smell of damp in the hallway, and all the housekeeping carts, towel bins, and rubbish bins stored under the stairs. When we walked outside we had to walk through large bins stored either side of the footpath. On our final day there was a visible leak in the hallway ceiling, with a huge bubble in the paint and a drip onto a soggy carpet with an overflowing bucket underneath—bare in mind we stayed 3 nights, this was the final day, and there had not been any rain that week, so I don’t know where the leak was coming from but it wasn’t outside. All our towels still had the barcode sticker from the laundry company attached. It is a hotel with huge potential, a phenomenal location, and really friendly helpful staff—especially at breakfast.
