The central spot in a historic building was exactly what we wanted, and the quirky furnishings added charm; it was very clean and the bathroom was great. However, our superior room was small, fitting only one chair, so we had to sit on the bed to relax. With five nights there was little storage for clothes, so it might be better suited for one or two nights. The internet was insufficient for work. The room could have had a kettle; we had to walk outside and across the courtyard to use the lukewarm water from the coffee facilities. There was no window in the ‘garden room’ or a view, and the curtains over a glass door had to be opened to let in natural light. The door led to a small patio with a table and chairs, which would have been nice in good weather but didn’t add much to the facilities or give extra space. The patio faced a small garden that wasn’t private to the room; a dog ran around off the lead, and the area was unattractive because it was used for storage – bikes, road signs, ladders, etc. A security light flashed all night. There was an odd smell around the breakfast room (we ate out), the coffee bar, and in the bedroom. It might be worthwhile for the owner to discuss with staff how they speak to customers and treat them respectfully. The housekeeper was delightful.

The setting, a very nice hotel in an old building, is lovely. The rooms are very large and the breakfast is very good. Nothing to add.
