Located in Dunfanaghy, the Shandon Hotel & Spa offers stunning views of Sheephaven Bay from its refurbished 2016 accommodations. Each bright and airy room features a TV, tea/coffee facilities, private bathroom, and some offer sea views. The hotel boasts a leisure centre with pool, sauna, steam room, and gym, as well as a separate luxury thermal spa and on-site parking.

The meal at the bar was good and the front of the hotel offered fabulous views, but we booked two rooms for the Shandon from 8th‑10th Sept, one advertised as a “king room with sea view” for my elderly parents. When we arrived, the room was a small, dark attic space on the 5th floor; the main lift only reached the 4th floor, so we had to use a wheelchair‑accessible lift to get up. The room was labeled “executive” on the door, had a dated interior, a very deep bath with no shower, and a small window. My mother could not get into the bathroom and had to wash elsewhere. The hotel refused to move us to another room. The pictures on the booking site and the hotel’s own site were outdated and did not reflect the reality. Because my mother could not wash, I had no choice but to leave after one night. We tried the leisure centre, but their unisex changing rooms and showers were unsuitable for elderly people and children. I spoke with both reception staff and emailed the manager, requesting a refund for the second night, but they declined. My parents are fully mobile and not disabled, yet the bath and lift facilities are unsafe for an elderly person, and this was not mentioned anywhere on the booking or hotel site. After returning home, I outlined all the issues to the hotel; they escalated the complaint to the manager, but after 10 days they still haven’t replied. I’ve reached out to the booking platform again for help. I would not recommend the Shandon hotel for the reasons above, and my opinion has only worsened due to their complete lack of customer service following my complaint.

The view was stunning and the parking was convenient, but the drinks took a little longer than expected.

I loved the spot, though it’s a bit far from the town center if that matters to you; the staff were friendly, yet handling luggage was a hassle because there were no trolleys; the indoor pool, spa, and nearby sights were great; the menus felt repetitive, but Ireland’s humor and hospitality more than compensated.
