“A work in motion”

The location was amazing, a stone’s throw from the beach; staff were friendly and helpful, the room was fairly clean on arrival, check‑in was smooth, the bar area was very good, and overall it was good value for money with good heating and water temperature in a lovely building. However, the double room was very small—better suited for a single—and there was no space at the foot of the bed to reach the bathroom, so I had to shuffle between the bed foot, window, and sloping ceiling, bumping my head a few times; a shame because the website pictures showed bigger rooms. Hangers were missing on arrival and only appeared after three requests. The bathroom was lovely but the bath was loose, there were marks on the carpet and bed cushion, pulling the window blind behind the TV was awkward, the fan was dusty, there was no room service during our four‑night stay, and there were too many stairs—I'd have preferred a room on the ground floor because of mobility issues.

“Good place to stay”

The staff were amazing, went out of their way to make us comfortable, and the room and bathroom were spotless; nothing.

“This is not a hotel but a pub with reasonable quality accomodation, but limited food menu.”

The location is good, though on‑site parking is limited and first‑come, first‑served. The rooms were tidy, well equipped with good bathrooms, simple but effective furniture, and narrow double beds. Heating worked well and there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast had to be taken at a neighboring Cafe/Diner, requiring a pass that had to be issued each day by hotel or pub staff, ideally the night before, since no staff were on duty after midnight until late morning. The owners live nearby and can be reached via intercom. The Bay Hotel is essentially a pub with many guest rooms, serving a local clientele. Lunch and evening menus are limited, there’s no on‑site breakfast, and Mondays have no menu because the chef takes a day off.

Good parking and a short drive from Eastbourne, but the pillows were very poor quality and flat. The sports bar downstairs looked tacky, decked out in Halloween décor, so I didn’t feel comfortable having a drink there. Also, the fact that breakfast had to be taken at a cafe next door wasn’t mentioned in our booking.

“Value for money”

The place was clean, fresh, and easy to find, with fabulous staff and amazing food that offered great value for money. Nothing bad to say.
