Nestled an 8‑minute walk from JR Takayama Station, Ryokan Takayama offers traditional Japanese rooms with tatami flooring, futon bedding, flat‑screen TV, fridge and telephone. Guests enjoy a communal public bath, free lobby Wi‑Fi, and luggage storage. The ryokan lies near Takayama’s Old Town and morning market, with Shirakawa‑go Village reachable within an hour’s drive.

The owner is very attentive and caring about everything, though there’s a slight noise issue with creaks on the stairs—just a small detail.

The place has a charming vibe and a convenient spot for sightseeing; the price is fair, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the proprietress is kind and courteous. The shared bath closes at 23:00, which makes it hard to use if you’re on a tight schedule, and the washbasin is shared between men and women, which made me a bit uneasy. There’s only one hairdryer in the bathroom, so it would be nice to have one in each room.

The spot is decent and the onsen is nice, but the place seriously lacks gear—no microwave, coffee machine, kettle, or water fountain, and they only offer tea, no coffee. The room lights up at night right across from a traffic light, so you’ll sleep amid constant red and green lights 🥰. It’s pricey for what it is.
