San Paolo Palace Hotel

“Für Stadtaufenthalt gut geeignetes, preiswertes Hotel, wenn man nicht perfektionistisch ist.”

The view of the sea was great, and the bus stop is almost right outside the door, so the old town, train station and beach (when open) are all quickly reachable. The beds were good and the breakfast was tasty, not exactly international but packed with local sweet pastries. The staff were friendly and answered guest requests quickly. The pool was closed during the October school holidays even though the weather was a lovely 27 °C, which the Italians should probably start adjusting to. The condition and cleaning of our (relatively newly renovated) room could have been better: the fixtures were wobbly and not repaired, the drains were dirty, there were no shelves in the bathroom, and after several days dust flakes appeared in the room. The nearby beach was also already closed (see Italian customs).

The hotel itself is fine, but the location is terrible. It doesn’t feel safe. They didn’t tell us that the pool closes on October 1.

“Decent hotel with basic comforts, but not great value for money, especially considering the location.”

The hotel is very spacious, and I found it convenient because I was attending an event there. The breakfast was decent, nothing exceptional, and I would have liked to see more local Sicilian products. A highlight was definitely the breakfast area on the 14th floor, which offers a beautiful view of the sea. The hotel also has a swimming pool, which I didn’t get the chance to use, but I imagine it would be a nice addition during the warmer months. The main downside for me was the location: the hotel is about a 20/30‑minute walk from the city centre, and the surrounding area isn’t particularly pleasant to walk around. After about 15 minutes on foot you can reach a much nicer area by the sea. I also don’t think the hotel offers great value for money. The room had all the basic comforts and was reasonably clean, so it wasn’t a bad experience overall, but for the price I paid, I expected a little more. I stayed mainly because I was attending an event at the hotel’s conference centre, which made it convenient. Otherwise, I probably would have chosen somewhere else.

“Palermo”

A clean large hotel with good sea views. The breakfast was wonderful. The room was good, the bed was good. The cleaners were friendly and helpful. The bus and nearby train run close by. My room was on the top floor. Near there was some room whose door handle (hard) woke me up many times at night.
