The front desk team was kind and efficient, but the room felt like a motel: musty air, heavy starchy sheets that seemed unclean, hair in the shower, thin over‑dried towels, a carpet that looked like it hadn’t been shampooed, a lopsided bed, a peeling headboard, and a dead phone; the only thing missing was the usual cigarette smell of a motel.
