Locanda del Pilone, a restored farmhouse perched 5 km from Alba, offers sweeping Langhe vistas and Alpine horizons. Surrounded by Barolo vineyards, the stone building blends antique Piedmont furnishings, vaulted ceilings, and modern Wi‑Fi. A lounge with a grand fireplace and a historic restaurant serve local cuisine paired with regional wines, making it a unique hilltop retreat.

The staff at the front desk were friendly and went out of their way to cancel a night for us because we had an unexpected appointment in Brescia, where we’d also booked a hotel. The breakfast, however, was extremely limited for a room rate of 220 euros: only a croissant and three slices of bread with ham, cheese and jam, plus a small bowl of fruit salad for two. No yogurt, no eggs, no cake or coffee cake, and no water pressure.

The hotel sits right on the Alba wine hills, offering stunning scenery. It’s a classically styled, slightly old-fashioned property with high‑quality shower amenities and towels, quiet rooms that are spacious, and convenient parking and check‑in. Breakfast was very simple; compared to the extravagant Michelin‑starred dinner, don’t expect much at breakfast: just coffee, a small portion of juice, a brioche and antipasti, and yogurt only if you order it separately.

Perched on the hilltop amid the romantic vineyards of Piedmont, the rooms are in an old‑world style that suits the house’s history. The Michelin restaurant is worth a trip, the staff are very nice and friendly, and breakfast is served at the table, abundant with fruit, freshly baked bread, and homemade hazelnut cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tour.
