The place looked nothing like the pictures; getting there is only practical with a jeep or 4x4, yet the manager told me to walk the last 3 km. When my driver asked the local family in Sinhala where the toilet was, they pointed to the garden. The on‑site hosts seemed clueless about the booking and had no contact with the manager, while locals in Meemure didn’t even know the homestay existed. I cancelled on arrival and booked somewhere else.

The journey was long, but that’s part of the adventure and Meemure itself is extraordinary. We ended up staying elsewhere on short notice. The scenery is breathtaking and gorgeous. The food was unbelievably good. The optional waterfall tour is one‑of‑a‑kind and highly recommended. Thanks to both hosts, especially the hostess for her tireless effort and fantastic meals. Tip: bring your own fruit and snacks because it’s so remote.

Kanishak's hospitality is top-notch - he's the kind of host who'll go out of his way to help. He even picked me up on his motorcycle when I arrived, and the next day gave me a lift to the road at 5 am so I could make my group hike on time. His wife's cooking is also a highlight - it's delicious and spotless. If you're planning to hike, just ask Kanishak to arrange it for you - he's got all the inside knowledge and can hook you up with great deals.
