“We will be back”

The spot was spot on, with birdlife and sunsets that blew us away. We got a terrace all to ourselves, which felt great, though we had to keep an eye on the hawks and our food – we actually found that a bit thrilling. The local fishing crew were very friendly. The room felt a bit worn, especially the bathroom. Birds nest in the trees on the east side, so if there's a breeze from that direction the dining area can get pretty smelly; we ended up eating on the terrace or in the garden instead. The upcoming expansion on the west side should fix that. The building finish and design are high‑maintenance with light‑colored paint, so up close they look run down even though they're fairly new. Staff were good, but the general manager, Jassen, can be quite overpowering and might have offered more privacy – that's just his style. The menu was limited, but we were there on a weekday, so that might be expected.

“Not what I expected. Just the outside views is the only worthy thing”

There was no reception area. The room interior is an eyesore with rocks everywhere. It was very hot, and there was no AC.

The location was great and the sea views were beautiful even at night. The room quality on the top floor was very high, beyond expectations, and the free leisure activities (like a free kayak ride at sunset) and the use of the pool were also inexpensive. Walking outside the hotel was easy, locals were friendly and spoke English. I especially noted that the staff really tried to make us comfortable and communication was excellent—especially from an employee named Naomi. The room itself was clean, but the living room that leads to the top floor was never cleaned. The restaurant is fairly cheap, but the options are very limited—mostly fried food, and fresh choices are scarce. The hotel doesn’t have its own beach; about 2 km on foot there is a decent paid beach (500 KSH per person). The boat ride from the mainland to the island was a bit pricey (10 000 KSH one way).

“Beautiful Setting but Major Shortcomings😟☹️”

The rooms were spacious enough, and the beds were good, with the beach just next to the hotel. The hotel is very isolated; outside the resort grounds there is almost nothing—no shops, supermarkets, or markets. It’s a rural area still developing, and there’s nowhere to explore beyond the resort unless you want boat trips or local walks. A few local shops we managed to visit were far away from the resort. There is no disabled access or suitable paths in the rooms—I was relieved I didn’t travel with my father. Rooms have no fridge, kettle, cups, or glassware, so if you stay more than a few days bring plenty of snacks and long‑lasting drinks. Based on other reviews I expected better; the furniture and walls look worn and need updating. Beach flies were a major issue: not mentioned anywhere beforehand. They were everywhere and swarmed to lights, so we had to keep lights off and only use the TV—making our four‑day stay a nightmare. If you dislike insects, avoid this place.

The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating, the garden was well planted, and the food was tasty with a decent breakfast. The nature and the many birds were dreamlike. The hotel is old and needs renovation, and the food took a long time to arrive, although everything was freshly prepared.
