“Very clean and enjoyable stay run by nice and honest people.”
I booked the Steamboat Inn about 2 weeks before our trip because an event was happening and most other places were booked. Even if other options were available, I'd still choose this place. It's a cozy little house less than a 5‑minute walk from downtown Jefferson. The house was super clean and colorful. Parking was on the street, and with so few rooms it was never an issue. Arriving an hour before check‑in, we walked the property and inspected everything. A couple of cats outside seemed friendly but wary of people. The owners, who were also the workers, greeted us personally at check‑in. After exploring downtown, we returned around 7 pm to find one of the owners scooping cat food into a cup. He explained there were 4 stray cats on the property, gave us their names, and said each would let you pet it while it was eating; my girlfriend tried to pet them but they wouldn’t allow it. Later that night, after our ghost tour, he and some other guests sat outside by a fire, and he had a half cup of cat food to offer us so the cats would like us. In the morning we had breakfast at 9 am and he was again there, asking what we’d like and chatting like an old friend. The lady he owned the place with was very nice, not as talkative but she, with a smile, cooked us a great breakfast and was just as friendly. The Steamboat Inn feels more like a buddy’s house than an Airbnb or hotel, informal yet professional, making you feel like a friend rather than just a customer. There was literally nothing negative.
