“Cowbells, River Breezes and the First Taste of Switzerland”
Riding through the valleys from France into Switzerland, I finally stopped in Saint‑Ursanne, a medieval town where the Doubs river flows quietly through the center, church bells and cowbells fill the air, and the scenery reminds you why maps exist. The hotel sits right beside the river, in a spot that’s hard to beat, and guests often praise its riverside setting and central location for good reason. I had asked for a river‑view room and was lucky to get one. The rooms are simple, practical, and unpretentious, but they were spotless, comfortable, and exactly what I needed after a long day on the saddle, so I slept very well. In the Swiss summer, the absence of air conditioning might be a concern for some, but I found the breeze off the river more than sufficient, even if a mosquito occasionally appreciated the view. Motorcyclists will find it easy to stay here; I parked right outside the hotel without having to pay a Swiss parking fine, which felt like a small victory. The hotel restaurant turned out to be one of the pleasant surprises of my visit. The food was solid, the atmosphere relaxed, and the terrace overlooking the river is the perfect spot for an evening drink while the town gradually winds down. The property highlights its restaurant, bar, and river‑view terrace, all of which contribute to its appeal. Breakfast the next morning was fairly simple rather than extravagant.
