Not safe. I do not recommend solo travelers to stay overnight here. I experienced a very traumatizing incident at this resort a few days ago. I had food poisoning and during the night I fainted in the common area on the stone floor due to dehydration. I hit my head very badly and got a deep cut and was bleeding from the back of my head. When I came back to my consciousness, I desperately called out for help but nobody answered. I stumbled around dizzy and hurt to try to find someone that could help me, but nobody was there. I finally found an emergency number to call, but they did not pick up. I finally got a message on WhatsApp from the number saying that there was nobody working at the resort during the night, but they would try to find someone to come check on me. 40 minutes later, 2 lovely Guatemalan women finally came to find me in the bed and brought me to a health care center down in San Marcos. After getting stitches, I got to spend the night at the Guatemalan family as it was too far to go back up to the Eagle Nest. The managers from the resort did not contact me to check my status the next morning and I had to send them a message first asking for my luggage to be sent down to San Marcos. They responded that it would be better for me to go back up and get it there. Once again, the Guatemalan family helped me back up after making me breakfast and cleaning my wound. The women in the family work at the Eagle Nest and are some of the most kind women I have ever met. I was offered two extra nights at the hotel for free, but I kindly declined as I did not feel safe there at all. The location is stunning, the food is delicious and the staff is very kind - so it’s a shame that it is dangerous to stay there, especially as a solo traveler when nobody will take care of you if something happens. I got my refund and an apology from the resort, which I appreciate, but I truly hope that efforts are made so that your lovely guests will be safe while staying there.
