Château de Varennes

“Everything arranged to make for an extra special stay, including first-class restaurant across the courtyard.”

The owner was charming and welcomed us warmly both in the chateau and the restaurant, and the breakfast was served on platters fit for a Marquis; the restaurant itself was great, with lovely Sylvie looking after us and fabulous food. The historic castle, complete with a drawbridge, is well‑located for exploring the area, and there are easy walks straight from the door for dog owners. All good.

A warm welcome, thoughtful details, and a wonderful breakfast on the terrace made staying there a real experience; the restaurant service was excellent, though the food was a bit ambitious and the château vibe would fit better with candles instead of bright lights.
