The Wayfarer Motel in Kaitaia boasts an outdoor pool, an indoor hot tub, and complimentary internet access in its business centre. It is a 10-minute drive from Ancient Kauri Kingdom, Gumdiggers Park, and Nocturnal Glowworm Park. Each room features a kitchenette with microwave, fridge, and toaster, along with ironing equipment and satellite TV.

I really enjoy staying at Wayfarer because of the hosts’ friendliness and flexibility; I usually stay on the ground floor and stayed in the same unit before, which I liked. The units need a makeover: when I tried to plug in the electric blanket the socket didn’t work, only one lamp was functional, and it was freezing that night. The beds are old and uncomfortable, so after a long 4‑hour journey you’d expect a decent, comfortable bed.

Walking distance to town was a plus, but the place was dirty and dated; the roof was peeling, and neither the heater, electric blanket, nor hair dryer worked. No one was in the office to address our concerns, and with only one blanket on the bed, a lumpy hard mattress and no heat, we couldn't sleep well.
