The bed was comfortable and gave a good night’s sleep. The rooms were clean, the spa and pool were good and everything was tidy. One of the female receptionists was lovely and gave us a free coffee voucher when the internet was down and we couldn’t check in. The breakfast was terrible – the bacon was burnt and the sausages were rock solid. The male receptionist was rude. For what they charge for a night it was nothing special.

The hotel was brilliant with great facilities, and there was nothing to criticize.

Check‑in was quick, but the staff struggled to smile. I asked for a quiet room and received one at the end of a corridor on the top floor, which is understandable because corridor noise can seep in otherwise. The swimming pool was a real plus for the kids. Breakfast, however, was mediocre and clearly not child‑friendly—£3 for a single slice of toast seemed like a deliberate way to deter guests from eating there. When I asked for a VAT invoice at check‑out, the front desk insisted that the hotel wasn’t responsible, and my attempts to explain, even with the HMRC website, were ignored. After three emails to the hotel and a request to remove them from their platform for breaching UK invoicing rules, I finally received a VAT receipt by email. It took four and a half hours of emailing and phone calls with the hotel to get a valid VAT invoice—an unacceptable level of resistance for a basic legal requirement. Shame on you, hotel!

The hotel and its facilities were very good, but since I only stayed one night I didn’t get to use them. The evening meal was nicely cooked and served quickly, and the staff were generally pleasant. Unfortunately, my wife’s breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was disappointing: the plate was sent back to the kitchen because the scrambled egg was cold, and when it returned it still tasted off, so she had to leave it. I was very disappointed. I had a Scottish Breakfast that was okay but not great, so I ate it before my wife’s breakfast was finally served to keep it from getting cold.
